First Network Meeting

Posted by AndrewJ

The network met for the first time on 12th April in the Centre for Nordic Studies in Kirkwall. The discussions centred around how to integrate data from the various disciplines in an optimally searchable database with a GIS-based focus on locations.

Each member is now looking at models that can serve as examples eg. the Swedish archaeological site Fornsök (Riksantikvarieämbetet). This won an award in Sweden, and it is indeed very good; it can be searched from text and map. With the smartphone  app. Kringla one can access Fornsök. This is close to how we envisage Hjaltland Network looking. A very interesting  model!
