A new map to look at.

Posted by AndrewJ

Ever wondered how big a Viking horde might be? This entry in the Annals of Ulster under 866 gives a clue:

‘Aed son of Niall plundered all the strongholds of the foreigners i.e. in the territory of the North, both in Cenél Eógain and Dál Araidi, and took away their heads, their flocks, and their herds from camp by battle (?). A victory was gained over them at Loch Febail and twelve score heads taken thereby.’

I’ve added a version of my Viking raids kmz to the Demo page. Have a look and see if you can find this entry. This could be the beginning of setting research tasks for students!
